10/21/06: Ooh, big big update time! :D The big news here is that I finished translating all of the remaining Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen lyrics! Everything that has been commercially released at some time or another. (All that's left is, like... demos and cover songs.) That includes translations for the rest of Adult, the rest of the Rie Tomosaka songs, the songs only found on the "Hatsuiku Status" DVD (which actually didn't have even the romaji until now!)... etc. Yeah. :D happyyyy

I also FINALLY put up a translation of the Spanish version of "Hips Don't Lie," as was much requested (fortunately, it didn't require creation of a singles page, yay), and lyrics to the FIFA World Cup Mix version as well.

Shiina Ringo: Hatsuga, Warui Nae Yoi Moe, Gaichuu Kujo, Takai Takai, Haenuki, Sakasete Mite, Konya Dafu, Mebana Yue Obana
    > Tomosaka Rie:
Mokuren no CreamIkenai Ko, Nihon ni Umarete
Tokyo Jihen: Rakujitsu, Himitsu (and Himitsu FOR DJ), Keshou Naoshi, Yukiguni, Tegami, Mirror Ball
Chihiro Onitsuka: Mamotte Agetai
Shakira:
Será, Será (Las Caderas No Mienten), Hips Don't Lie (2006 FIFA World Cup Mix)

Oh, and I also corrected "Sid to Hakuchuumu" a little bit, so if there's any sites out there copying my lyrics (you know who you are ^_~) you might wanna change that.

I guess I didn't mention it before, but I'm currently in Japan (Tokyo/Chiba area) studying abroad for the fall semester, and I'll be here 'til December. It's really fun :) (You can read my blog about it here). I also joined Shiina Ringo's fan club so I may begin to have translations of the monthly emails and such, we'll see.

I hope the Shiina Ringo demon possessing me has been exorcised now and I can start in on fully on Bonnie Pink and Chihiro Onitsuka, AT LAST. And the rest of Maaya...

Oh yeah, and the site hosting my tagboard went down or something so I had to get a new one from a different site. I may like this one better, actually... no more popup. :D Check it out here, and post something, it looks lonely!

9/12/06: Another bunch of gradual updates I can collect here, even though I am currently working on some things related to them.

The main thing is that I added another section to Shiina Ringo, a new Miscellaneous section to host things such as songs she's written for other people, and songs on DVDs that can only be found on those DVDs (mainly covers). In the course of putting the lyrics up, I wound up translating many of them.

I also finished translating the rest of Rie fu's debut album, so her section is complete for the moment. :D I also finished Tokyo Jihen's "Toumei Ningen," and the rest of Adult will be soon to follow!

Oh, and I have lyrics for the two new songs from TJ's new DVD "Just Can't Help It" (and a translation for one of those songs).

Rie fu: I So Wanted, Decay, Prayers & Melodies
Shiina Ringo: Delayed Brain, Minato-machi Juusanbanchi, Shiroi Hana no Saku Koro
    > Tomosaka Rie: Cappuccino, Mokuren no Cream (romaji only), Shoujo Robot, Ikenai Ko (romaji only), Nihon ni Umarete (romaji only)
Tokyo Jihen: If You Can Touch It, Kurumaya-san, Koi no Urikomi, Toumei Ningen (request), Mirror Ball (romaji only), C'm'on Let's go!

Next up, more Tokyo Jihen, and some of those pesky Shakira requests I keep getting! The problem with those is that they aren't currently on an album, which means I'd have to create a singles or miscellaneous page, which means a bit more work for me. :/

8/23/06: Finally, this update is complete, and I can post here about it. :D Lots of cool new stuff including some requests!

Rie fu: Somebody's World (request), Until I Say, Sunshine Of My Day (transcription), Tobira, Rose Album liner notes (see below)
Tokyo Jihen: Jusui Negai, Crawl, Service, Yume no Ato (AKA the rest of Kyouiku)
Cardcaptor Sakura: Kureyuku Hitotose

Yes, "Kureyuku Hitotose" had previously been thought impossible. I'm still not 100% happy with the translation, but it's done enough to put it up. Now all of CCS is complete! Though actually, I realized I'm not thrilled with some of the translations done by other people that I have up there, so I might be going in and making my own.

Re: the Rie fu liner notes, she recently released on her website some liner notes/random remarks about each song on Rose Album. I translated them and put them at the bottom of each song a la Maaya Sakamoto's liner notes. Enjoy!

From now on there's some requests (Shakira), the rest of Tokyo Jihen's Adult and other stuff (and maybe a new section for miscellaneous things like songs on DVDs and whatnot), rest of Rie fu's debut album, and lots and lots of Bonnie Pink for me to get to. Look forward to it!

7/9/06: Woohoo, lots of new translations, including requests!

Maaya Sakamoto: Gift (request)
Bonnie Pink: Passion Fruit, Bubble Gum, Free
Tokyo Jihen: Superstar, Blackout (requests)
Cardcaptor Sakura: Blue As The Sky (it already had a translation, but I decided that it sucked--which it did--so I made a new one from scratch that I think is 100% better XD)

And the B-sides for Rie fu's new single have been released, so I updated that as well.

I also made a translation (as a request) of a song that Shiina Ringo wrote for Rie Tomosaka back during her solo career, Cappuccino. But since I don't really have a place for it in this site, I don't think it will be posted here for the time being. It's available on the forum here, if you're interested. [ETA 8/24/06: Now has a permanent home here on the site!]

6/17/06: Okay! Finally everything's done and I can post it all in one big batch. Lots of new lyrics, translations, and pages to reflect new releases by many of the artists featured here.

Maaya Sakamoto: Spica translation
Rie fu: New single Until I Say page and cover
Bonnie Pink: Got Me A Feeling lyrics & translation; Through The Dark lyrics; new single A Perfect Sky page, lyrics & translation; new best album Every Single Day page; Souldiers lyrics & translation
Chihiro Onitsuka: Lyrics for all of Sugar High and the rest of This Armor
Shakira: Que Me Quedes Tu translation

That's now all of Shakira's lyrics translated, so I don't get any more unbelievably rude people yelling at me on the tagboard about how I "lied" and didn't have all of Shakira's lyrics translated (which for the record, I never claimed. I said all but ONE. Until now!). Let me take the opportunity here to remind everyone that I do this as a hobby, and I certainly don't owe anyone anything. If you don't see something here that you want, the best way to get it is to request it, not yell at me and storm off when it was your own fault for not, apparently, being able to read.

There's also some better cover scans for certain Rie fu, Bonnie Pink, and Chihiro Onitsuka releases (mostly cause I got copies of some albums I didn't have and was able to make my own scans).

Now that I've caught myself up, I'll be working on more translations (including the requests I've gotten) and will post here when those are up. :) Even though it's the summer, I have an internship (with TOKYOPOP the manga publishing company. Doing more editing work than translating as I had hoped, but it's cool) so I'm still relatively busy. I try and get to this when I can, though!

5/3/06: A bunch of new translations! Including the two requests that I got. :) I'm quite pleased with myself. We also have lyrics only for Bonnie Pink's new (amazing) song Love Is Bubble, and a translation for Maaya Sakamoto's newest single and the Tsubasa Chronicle second ending song, Kazemachi Jet (I also added a new category for singles to the Maaya section). The bulk of the translations, however, are Shiina Ringo, because I was trying to reach my goal of getting all her solo works translated--which I have now done! yay! :D

Maaya Sakamoto: Shippo no Uta (requested), Kazemachi Jet
Bonnie Pink: Love Is Bubble
Shiina Ringo: Mellow, Hai hai, Kougousei, Okonomi de, Ichijiku no Hana, Ringo Catalogue
Tokyo Jihen: Kokoro (requested)

The forum is coming along swimmingly, we've got 30 members already and some good discussions going. If you're reading this and haven't joined yet, you should, I'd love to have you :)

I'm approaching finals week for my college so I'm going to have to buckle down and focus on that, but once that's over I hope to return to my current projects: getting the rest of Maaya Sakamoto and Rie fu translated. Then I can (finally) move on to Bonnie Pink and Chihiro Onitsuka!

Which reminds me, on the tagboard I was asked if I planned to expand this site to include more artists. The answer is no, not at the moment, and here are the reasons. First! The site hasn't been updated to php yet by Kain, so trying to do that right now would be a huge pain for me and would involve essentially editing every single page. Second! There currently isn't another artist I like enough to want to start gathering lyrics and translating for. Third! I've got my hands full trying to complete translations of every song not yet covered by the artists here... maybe once that lofty goal is finally reached (so, 2010 or so!) I'll think about giving myself more work to do. :)

4/27/06:
Big News!!! Nostalgic Lavender now has forums!

Nostalgic Lavender Forums

I co-admin them with sora-kara and together we maintain forums for Bonnie Pink, Rie fu, Chihiro Onitsuka, Hajime Chitose, and HALCALI (so far). Please come check it out!!

4/14/06: New translations!! I got all of Rie fu's "Rose Album" translated as well as a couple from her debut album, a new Maaya Sakamoto song, and a couple Shiina Ringo songs.
Rie fu: Waratte, Megumi no Moto e, 2cm, Sono Mama de, Realize, Tiny Tiny Melody, Vintage Denim, Rose, & Long Long Way
Maaya Sakamoto: Scrap ~Wakare no Uta
Shiina Ringo: Tokyo no Hito, Aisaika no Choushoku

I'm working on more translations for each of those artists... namely, to get the rest of the Ringo songs from her solo career done, as well as all the Maaya songs no one's gotten to yet. And the rest of the Rie fu debut album songs. They'll be up... soon, maybe! Oh, and Tokyo Jihen's "Kokoro" that was requested, though it's turning out to be pretty hard :/

4/3/06: I got my copy of Rie fu's "Rose Album" today (yay!), so I've transcribed and put up the rest of the lyrics from that: Rose Album. There's also a translation of "Tiny Tiny Melody" up there too, and I'll probably get around to more Rose Album translations as time goes on.

3/30/06: Just some updates all around, I clarified some Maaya Sakamoto and Cardcaptor Sakura translations so hopefully they sound better all around. I also updated the tracklisting for Shakira's Oral Fixation Vol. 2 to reflect the new order in the re-release this month. That also means lyrics for the new song Hips Don't Lie, which I also translated the Spanish parts to.

3/15/06: New translations! Shakira: Ciega Sordomuda, Si Te Vas, Moscas en la Casa, Que Vuelvas, Tu, Sombra De Ti, Ojos Asi, Suerte, and Te Aviso Te Anuncio (Tango). That's all of her songs translated now except for 'Que Me Quedes Tu' because it has some confusing passive voice stuff in it and I need to consult with native speakers.
Ringo Shiina: Gamble

Also, Maaya Sakamoto is going to sing the ending theme for the second season of Tsubasa Chronicle, and that new song is called Kazemachi Jetto (Jet Waiting for a Good Wind). Woo, look forward to it!

3/2/06: Short update, but I made a page for Bonnie Pink's new single coming out this May, Love Is Bubble. It's not linked with the rest of the singles cause I'm waiting on Kain to php-ize this entire site so it's easier for me to add a new single/album to the sidebar on most of the pages. And also, the single cover hasn't been released yet anyway! But it's cool that Bonnie's doing stuff. The song's going to be used for the theme to some drama (I think) called "Kiraware Matsuko no Isshou" or "Memories of Matsuko" (according to Amazon.co.jp, since that is in no way a direct translation!). And (even though this information isn't really relevant here cause I don't plan to put either of these albums on my site) she's also currently featured in two new albums: on Fantastic Plastic Machine's "Imaginations," she's a guest vocalist on track 9, "A World Without Love." And on a tribute album called "Words of Yukinojou," she's on track 8, "Kimitachi Kui Papaya Mango Dane (Bonnie Pink meets Mansfield)"

2/27/06: Translations!! I finally got some damn translations done. For Rie fu's section, there's now a translation for: I Wanna Go To A Place..., They Always Talk About, Negaigoto, and Tsuki no Ue. For Shiina Ringo, we've got Akane sasu kiro terasaredo..., Sid to Hakuchuumu, Byoushou Public, and Izonshou (that means her first three albums now have all the songs on them translated! *dances*). For Tokyo Jihen, the Japanese at the beginning of Kenka Joutou. And for Bonnie Pink, Awa ni Natta.

I'm working on more "Adult" translations, as well as the untranslated songs from "Kyouiku." Also the last two Kalk Samen songs, and SR's singles. And the rest of the songs from Rie fu's debut album. They'll be up when I finish them!

And in Rie fu's section, the "Rose Album" cover is up. It looks way cool.

2/16/06: Put up the lyrics to Tokyo Jihen's "Adult," which I finally received in the mail. Also updated the Rie Fu section with the "Rose Album" tracklisting and "Tiny Tiny Melody" cover artwork (wish I had a bigger version!! sigh), as found in this thread. I'll get working on those translations, well, at some point.

2/4/06: Happy New Year! Even though it was a month ago, it's my first entry here in 2006. I spent most of January in Japan and had an amazing time, but now it's time to go back to school for the spring semester. During any free time I get I plan to work on translations and will update here when I put up new ones.

I've also updated Rie Fu's section of the site to reflect the news about her new single & album coming out this March. Finally there's enough releases to warrant the division of them into 'singles' and 'albums' categories like the rest of the site. I think it looks quite nice this way, and now it's all complete.

I haven't received my copy of Tokyo Jihen's new album "Adult" yet, but when I do, I'll work on getting up lyrics and beginning translations. (Does it drive anyone else up the WALL that a lot of people mistakenly think the title is 'Otona' because of the kanji? I know that's what the kanji says, but there's katakana in parentheses indicating how that kanji is supposed to be pronounced, and it just happens to say 'adaruto [Adult],' meaning the exclusion of the 'Otona' pronunciation. Sigh, that's one of the problems with the internet--sometimes I wish everyone could just conform to one correct standard about things...!)

I seem to be getting a lot of hits and things (and right now this site is the first hit on Yahoo/Google when you type in "[artist featured here] lyrics translations," which helps!) but somehow I just don't really feel their effect. I'm not quite sure what I'm after... but I'll just have to keep working hard. (Yeah, I guess that made no sense... oh well.)
