Karuki Samen Kuri no Hana /
Chalk,
Semen, Chestnut Flowers 2003.02.231. Shuukyou / Religion T 2. Doppelganger T 3. Meisai / Camouflage T 4. Odaiji ni / Get Well Soon T 5. Yattsuke Shigoto / A Damned Job T 6. Kuki / Stem T 7. Torikoshi Kurou / Over-anxiety T 8. Okonomi de / As You Like It T 9. Ishiki / Consciousness T 10. Poltergeist T 11. Souretsu / Funeral Procession T 12. Ichijiku no Hana / Fig Flower T [Analog Edition Only] Notes: 'Karuki' comes from the German word "Kalk" and translates the easiest in English to 'chalk,' although what it really refers to is chlorinated lime: the chlorine pellets dropped into pools to disinfect them. According to Ringo, "Because my staff said the smell of 'karuki' was really like the smell of semen, I came to think 'Oh, karuki, how pretty'" (News23). The word 'Samen' (Semen) is also German (along with "Doppelganger" and "Poltergeist"! Lots of German words going on here). A chestnut flower also supposedly smells like semen, and one of the slang terms for one's clitoris in Japanese is "kuri-chan" (something like, 'my little chestnut'). Basically, this title can be interpreted to mean "Semen Smell, Semen, (Feminine) Semen Smell." back to Ringo Shiina |
