I warned you
that this darkness was light
Because you laugh in order to cry
I remembered
that I can’t wish for anything
I lost sight of
the breath of morning and night
Even as what’s frozen is burned
I tried
to be able to sing back in a soft voice
I didn’t even have to say it
What I’m searching for is no longer there
Told so many lies that they became truth
In this world
Hold on to
“People become lost children”
Because I can keep walking,
please let go of my hand
No matter how many times my scars disappear,
they happen over again, exactly like an error
Oh, our rose-colored days
My destination is always
nowhere at all
And yet I keep waiting
for a wind that will make me keep struggling on
If sad results are in sight
I’ll close my eyes
Paradise is far over there
And I can’t answer anything as I am
Accepting that, you abandoned
these feelings
I
know that
People stand still, unable to fly
Someday I’ll become an adult,
so let’s let go our hands
A pretense of an illusion from the very beginning
is disappearing, exactly as if it wasn’t there
Oh, our rose-colored days
Hold
on to
“People become lost children”
Because I can keep walking,
please let go of my hand
No matter how many times my scars disappear,
they happen over again, they happen over again
I
know that
People stand still, unable to fly
Someday I’ll become an adult,
so let’s let go our hands
A pretense of an illusion from the very beginning
is disappearing, exactly as if it wasn’t there
Oh, our rose-colored days

Translator's
notes: "Boku[ra]" (I
[we]) is a masculine first pronoun, and not the feminine one Chihiro
normally uses ("atashi"). Thus, we can conclude that she is not
speaking from her own point of view here, and instead from a masculine
one. The title literally means "Us--Rose-colored Days" but I chose to
translate it as "Our Rose-colored Days" because I think that sounds
better and still has more or less the same implications.
Song info: This song was written 3 and a half years before its release
as a single (and recorded 2 years before its release, as with
"everyhome"), and is meant to give the image of rose petals swirling
about. The theme of the song is resignation and despair in the face of
the fact that rose-colored days can never last--and yet, to seek those
days over and over represents hope.
Chihiro's liner notes: This was the first song that I handed over to Kobatake-san. It “came out” quite naturally.
