Worn at: n/a Cost: $20 Time to Complete: 2 hours Inspiration: Ushicon 2, even though I never got around to actually wearing it there. I wanted a new costume, and Saint Tail seemed simple enough. Description of Costume: It's really a simple costume. You just have to decide whether you want to do the manga version or the anime version. The manga version consists of a black vest with tails, a white collared sleeveless shirt under that, and a black bow tie around the neck. A black bow ties her hair into a ponytail, and long black gloves go up past her elbow. She also wears a short pink skirt and black tights that are more like legwarmers because they go all the way down and cover her shoes. The anime version is identical to this, except that everything that is black is more like a dark maroon. I decided to do the manga version because I already had most of the black stuff, and I didn't have time to buy dark maroon material and try to MAKE gloves and leg things. How It Was Made: Yet again, little sewing was involved. We bought a vest pattern (that didn't really have the sharp tails required for Saint Tail's vest, but we never tried to alter it >.<) and black material and buttons and my mom sewed the vest together. I hand-sewed the buttons though! :D I already had the black tights, and we bought long black gloves, and I borrowed my sister's old Sailor Chibimoon skirt (which is actually a bit too small for me.. hopefully I can redo that someday before I wear the costume). I bought a long-sleeved white button-down shirt at a thrift store and cut off the sleeves to make the shirt underneath the vest. We also bought black ribbon, a really thick one to make the neck bow, and a less thick one to tie in my hair. Other Thoughts: You know, I really wish I'd gotten around to wearing this at Ushicon, because shortly afterwards I cut my hair and now it's even farther away from how long Saint Tail's is. ^_^;; Oh well. Maybe I'll wear it at Animefest 2003 or Ushicon 3. Hopefully! |
